When it comes to rock music, the mere mention of “LA” immediately brings to mind Los Angeles. But in the case of the fast-rising the Other LA – it’s a reference to a location miles away from the west coast. “I moved to Louisiana in 2012 from South Carolina but for some reason, my mom’s friends thought we moved to Los Angeles,” explains the group’s singer, Aria Fowler. “My mom would always call Louisiana ‘the Other LA,’ and that’s how I got inspired to name our band.” The Other LA would eventually be formed two years later, with Aria being joined by Charlie Thompson (guitar), McKenzie Lee (bass), and Zack Chapman (drums).
With a sound that blends alternative with hard rock, it was not long after the quartet formed that they began sharing the stage with other female-led acts, including Halestorm, Lacey Strum, and Lacuna Coil. “Our first big act we opened up for was Lacuna Coil in 2015,” recalls Aria. “We tried out for the Revolver’s Hottest Chicks competition – even though I was too young to compete being 14 years old. The event organizer was very impressed with us, and he made an exception for us to compete…and we won! The day of the show, we were all extremely nervous because we never played in front of a big crowd before, but it was by far one of the best shows we’ve ever played and will be a memory we will never forget.”
And the Other LA’s live show is simply not to be missed according to the singer. “I created an alter ego for my performance which tends to be more chaotic than my normal self, so fans can expect an intense show with a lot of energy. I don’t tend to talk very much onstage because I want the show to be about the music and stage prescience rather than ramble all night. Instead, I let my mind dive deep into the songs and channel all my emotions while I’m singing.”
